Moneygate at the 25th NextGen Payments & RegTech Forum in Athens
Moneygate joined leaders from banking, payments and compliance at the 25th NextGen Payments & RegTech Forum in Athens, where our COO, Panayiotis Theodosiou, took part in the panel on RegTech and responsible AI.
On 14 October 2026, the 25th NextGen Payments & RegTech Forum brought the payments and compliance community together at the Marriott Hotel in Athens. Organised by QUBE Events, the sold-out forum gathered banks, payment institutions, fintechs, regulators and corporates from Greece, Cyprus and the wider region for a full day of keynotes and panel discussions.
Moneygate attended as a sponsor of the forum. For a regulated Electronic Money Institution with a branch registered with the Bank of Greece, Athens is a natural place to be part of the conversation about where European payments are heading.
Where payments, compliance and AI meet
The agenda reflected how quickly the European payments landscape is moving. Sessions covered instant payments, the digital euro, new EU anti-money laundering rules and operational resilience under DORA.
Running through the day was a common thread: artificial intelligence is moving from experimentation into the core of payments and compliance operations. The question for regulated firms is no longer whether to use it, but how to govern it, explain it and demonstrate its value to supervisors and clients alike.
RegTech and responsible AI: governance, auditability and ROI
Panayiotis Theodosiou, Chief Operating Officer of Moneygate, joined the morning panel discussion on RegTech and responsible AI. Moderated by payments expert Robert Courtneidge, the panel brought together Damianos Charalampidis of Digicon Services, Maria Tsiliakou of the National Bank of Greece and Sakis Theologis of the Cooperative Bank of Karditsa.
The discussion focused on three areas that regulated firms are now addressing in practice:
- EU AI Act readiness: model risk, explainability and the documentation regulators will expect.
- AI in compliance operations: smarter monitoring, investigations and reporting, with a human in the loop.
- DORA meets AI: resilience and third-party oversight for AI-enabled services.
For Moneygate, these are not abstract questions. As an EMI authorised and supervised by the Central Bank of Cyprus, governance, auditability and human oversight are part of how the business operates every day. Technology should strengthen the work of compliance and operations teams, not replace their judgement.

The Moneygate team in Athens
Moneygate was represented by its Founder and CEO, Nicolas Treppides, together with Panayiotis Theodosiou, Chief Operating Officer, Demetra Petroyianni, Head of Internal Operations, and George Giakouvakis, AMLCO of the Moneygate Greek Branch.
Throughout the day, the team met with banks, payment providers, fintechs and corporate clients from Greece and the wider region. These conversations reflect what Moneygate is built on: a regulated EMI, built around how businesses actually operate.
Looking ahead
The forum made clear that the next phase of European payments will be shaped as much by governance and trust as by technology. Moneygate will continue that conversation at SiGMA World in Rome from 2 to 5 November, and at the 27th NextGen Payments & RegTech Forum in Limassol on 19 November.
Our thanks to QUBE Events for an excellent 25th edition, and to the panellists, speakers and attendees who made the day so valuable.
